“Locating/Centering Women and Gender (Post) Pandemic in The Era of Advanced-Technology”

The world faces new challenges with the advent of the internet and advanced technology. While bringing efficiency, technology also brings disruption and new challenges. The situation becomes more complex with more than two years of pandemic experience.

We then need to reflect. What changes are happening to women and gender relations? What are socio-economic and political life impacts at the lowest level up to the global level? How to put them in a more macro discussion, which is related and intertwined with various complex aspects of life?

Indeed technology can be perceived as gendered in many ways. The societal norms and relations, are influenced by technological transformations. In relation to gender and sexuality, technology can be used and has different implications for different genders. Advanced technology introduces new forms of gender-based violence and other challenges.

Life changes caused by technology are amplified by the onslaught of the pandemic. The pandemic was life-threatening, raised awareness of serious health challenges, as well as significantly disrupted economic life at the local, national, regional to global levels.

Currently, we are in the phase of a post-pandemic situation. While the pandemic has sloped down, people anticipate that life will not return to the same as before the pandemic.

We will live mediated by technology and by the shadows of post-pandemic reflections. All of that changes the economic activity and ecopolitical constellation at all levels. At the social levels, gender relations, division of work, and how humans seek intimacy and comprehend as well as practice their sexuality are also changing. How do we anticipate and prepare for the future? How to ensure a sustainable, gender-just and non-discriminatory life for vulnerable groups?

We invite the participation of all groups, be it academics, government, NGOs, researchers and field workers, to actively participate in the conference discussions and submit your abstracts.

Tuesday, February 28th 2023

The abstracts accepted for presentation will be published online in AAWS website. We are exploring cooperation with some journals for article publication. The draft articles will continue to undergo a review process from the journal to ensure eligibility for publication
